In this tenth lesson of The Mausoleum architectural visualization series, I demonstrate how to texture a candle and create a realistic flame in 3DS Max and V-Ray. The tutorial also covers lighting the flame properly so it casts shadows and illuminates the surroundings, a technique that can be applied to fireplaces and other flame-based light sources in archviz projects.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Create realistic wax textures for the candle

  • Set up the flame material and emission

  • Add V-Ray lights to make the flame illuminate the scene naturally

Resources used so far in the series:

Plaster texture: Textures.com

Damaged wall textures: Textures.com

Granite texture: Textures.com

Floor tiles texture: Textures.com
